Courses offered

  • Applicants will be considered for admission into the Master of Science in Applied Statistics if they have a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics Honours from Namibia University of Science and Technology, or equivalent qualification in a related discipline from any other recognised institutions. Applicants need to provide evidence of having conducted supervised research; possess communication proficiency in the English language and may be required to make-up specific deficiencies in coursework at discretion of the Postgraduate Studies Committee. In addition, applicants may be required to attend a pre-selection interview and/ or test at the discretion of the department.

    Applicants from other institutions must submit detailed information on all courses in their previous qualifications, as well as contact details of three referees. This also applies to applicants who have been working in the field subsequent to obtaining their previous qualifications.

    Registration prior to the approval of a research proposal is provisional and will be made official only when the proposal is approved by the Postgraduate Studies Committee. These procedures will be fully explained to each prospective student during their personal interview.

  • The Bachelor of Science Honours in either Applied Mathematics or Applied Statistics is a one-year postgraduate programme which follows on the Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

  • The B.Sc. degree programme in Applied Mathematics and Statistics is a 3-year combined degree programme aimed at fulfilling the following objectives upon completion by the graduates: To be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics in modelling and solving problems related to business, economics, management and other real world phenomena; to select and apply advanced Mathematical and Statistical techniques logically and scientifically to analyse, transform and evaluate data and concepts to resolve given problems and to be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the use of problem-solving computational tools such as MATLAB, SPSS and other emerging platforms.
